Krogerus advises Foresight on its acquisition of Nivala BESS

Krogerus advised Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners II SCSp on its acquisition of the fully permitted, ready-to-build 100MW/400MWh Nivala BESS project located in Nivala, Finland, from Fotowatio Renewable Ventures.

The acquisition is Foresight's second investment in Finland and strengthens Foresight's exposure to energy storage and grid flexibility infrastructure. The BESS is designed to participate in Finland's wholesale, intraday and ancillary services markets and to support the integration of renewable generation and the decarbonisation of the Finnish power system. Foresight will continue to develop the project, which is expected to commence commercial operations in the second half of 2028.

Finland's rapid expansion of renewable production is creating a growing need for grid flexibility, while growing data centre investments are pushing electricity demand higher.

Currently, Foresight's BESS portfolio across Europe consists of around 550MW of operational capacity.
