Krogerus advised several leading companies on the interpretation and implementation of the Data Act

Krogerus advised several global and Finnish companies on the interpretation and implementation of the Data Act, a part of the EU's comprehensive data regulatory package. During the past year, we have advised several internationally operating clients on extensive Data Act-related projects, involving regulatory and practical advice, creating contract models, conducting risk assessments and establishing internal processes. The clients advised have included companies from a broad spectrum of industries, from energy and utilities, industrial equipment and mining technology, telecommunications and digital infrastructure, and data platforms and SaaS solutions to AI and gaming.

The Data Act, which forms a part of the EU's broader digital regulatory framework, became applicable today, 12 September. It obliges companies to share data generated by their IoT products and to agree with users on how they can utilise the data. It also introduces switching and portability rules for cloud services. The advice on the Data Act projects has covered complex global production and distribution chains, including matters of provider transition and service continuity, and required advanced expertise on navigating situations, without existing market practice or precedents.

The Krogerus teams were led by Partners Kalle Hynönen and Pessi Honkasalo and they were primarily assisted by Counsels Emma Kostamo-Pääkkö and Salha Hanna, Senior Associates Iiris Rantanen and Ada Klaile, as well as Associates Laura Oiva, Eveliina Piha and Anni Sofia Kivi-Koskinen.
