Krogerus appoints new chairman

Mika Ståhlberg has been appointed chairman of the board at Krogerus as of 6 June 2011, while Juha Pekka Katainen will continue to serve as managing partner.

The former chairman of the board and the firm’s founding partner Hannu Krogerus has stepped down from the partnership and left the firm as the final step in his longstanding succession plan.

Hannu Krogerus served as the managing partner of the firm until 2003 and as its chairman of the board from 2004 until 2011. “I am very pleased to have completed my work at Krogerus and to be able to move on in my career. I am convinced that the firm will continue to thrive. The quality, focus and commitment of the firm’s employees are exceptional” says Hannu Krogerus.

Hannu Krogerus will cease practicing law and devote his time to management consulting at his personal consulting company and to board memberships.

Mika Ståhlberg, the new chairman of the board, is head of the transactional practices at Krogerus. Ståhlberg joined the firm in 1996 and was promoted to partnership in 2000. He has served on the firm’s board as of 2003.

Ståhlberg says “Hannu’s vision of the market and the development of the firm has been extremely important in helping Krogerus grow to one of Finland’s largest and most successful law firms in only two decades. In particular, his efforts in the early 2000’s, when the firm embarked on its growth strategy, are invaluable.”

“In keeping with our strategy we will continue to develop our capabilities, industry knowledge and client relationships within our main practice areas i.e. transactions, conflict management, competition, technology, energy, and restructuring and insolvency”, says Katainen.
