Krogerus partner Dr Mårten Knuts has been appointed professor of securities law at the University of Helsinki. He will continue as a partner with the firm, advising clients on transactions and disputes.
This is a new position for the University of Helsinki, partly financed by donations from Finnish pension insurance companies, listed companies, commercial law firms, foundations and NASDAQ OMX.
“The professorship is unique from a Nordic perspective, as it combines the more traditional fields of company, finance, market and civil law into a new independent discipline,” comments Mårten.
“By creating the professorship, the University of Helsinki has shown its responsiveness to the growing importance of securities law and financial market regulation. I look forward to the important task of providing students with a well-structured review of the subject.”
The aim of this new role is to raise awareness of European and Nordic securities market legislation. Lectures will also cover topical corporate governance issues.
“We welcome this opportunity for Mårten to bring his practical expertise to the next generation of lawyers,” comments managing partner Juha Pekka Katainen. “Establishing this position is an exciting task in a time when regulation in this field is evolving both in Finland and the European Union.”
